Saving your relationship can be challenging and it’s especially true if both parties are harboring hurt feelings. Your initial course of action will determine if you can salvage the broken relationship or just cause more hurt feelings.

There are a few things you should consider when trying to save your relationship. One is to drill down and get to the root of what caused the break up in the first place. You need to acknowledge the reason for the breakup to form your action plan to solve it. Find out if there is some way to make right the wrong that was done to cause the split.

Saving your relationship will some times require you to suck it up and put your pride aside. “Sorry seems to be the hardest word,” and you need to utter it if you feel that the break up was really your fault. You have to acknowledge that you are the cause of the break up and you should let your partner know that you never intended for your actions to cause such hurt feelings. You need to express your desire to fix what is now broken.

If your ex is not willing to forgive and forget just yet, don’t hibernate and cut yourself off from social activities. Go out with your friends and try to keep busy. You might even go on a casual date or two. Sometimes saving your relationship requires you to act as if you are moving on. Playing hard to get has been working for centuries and could work in your favor when trying to get your ex back.

If the opportunity arises, make sure you let your ex know that you are doing okay without them and working toward moving on if that is what is meant to be. If they express interest in working on the relationship or getting back together, let them know you are still willing to talk about it. Once the dust has settled, you might find the opportunity to begin to talk about why you broke up in the first place. Be relaxed and casual in your conversation, never act desperate or needy, remember they need to believe that you’ve basically moved on.
